OrangeCat.com today announced the relaunch of the RE/MAX Elite Bluegrass Team website. The BluegrassTeam.com website runs on WordPress. What we wanted to achieve is to place IDX listings from LBAR (Lexington Board of Realtors®) on the site, sorted by town and separating residential home and farm listings.
In addition, we wanted the IDX listings to be on pages with Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs at the BluegrassTeam.com domain.
A search of the LBAR MLS listings was also a required function. Search results should also be on the BluegrassTeam.com domain.
This would help visitors to locate properties they were interested in seeing and help Google and other search engine to index the properties in a way that would enable easy search in their databases.
We tried a few “out-of-the-box” solutions that promised to do exactly what was needed and every one of them left us disappointed in one way or another.
There is a WordPress plugin from IDX Broker that allows IDX listings to be displayed from links placed on the agents or brokers website, but we still wanted them to show on the BluegrassTeam.com domain using SEF URLs.
This was accomplished by creating a subdomain of the BluegrassTeam.com domain and configuring it to map to the Bluegrass Team’s IDX listings. Then, custom links were created and placed in the navigation of the main BluegrassTeam.com website.
This was exactly the solution we were looking for. Use of WordPress wasn’t absoulutely necessary to accomplish these goals, but made the job easier and provides for additional custom links to be added for more localities.
This solution required an account with IDXBroker. IDX Broker has MLS coverage in most areas. If you are a member of one of the MLSs listed here, we can help you develop this type of content for your website. Call OrangeCat.com at 859.755.4115 for more information.
